Elbow injury forces Serena Williams' Swedish Open withdrawal

Serena Williams' run at the Swedish Open has come to an abrupt end after the world number one was forced to retire injured before her second-round clash with Klara Koukalova on Thursday.

Fresh from claiming her second 'Serena Slam' " holding all four grand slams titles at the same time " with victory at Wimbledon, Williams eased through round one on Wednesday, beating Ysaline Bonaventure in just 53 minutes.
The 21-time grand slam champion appeared to have picked up right from where she had left off at the All England Club, as she claimed her 40th WTA Tour win of the year, but she will not be making it 41 in Bastad.
Williams addressed the crowd to explain her decision, saying: "In my warm-up this morning unfortunately my elbow started hurting.
"I had the same problem at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. I don't want to make it worse."
