Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have been been drawn in group A along with
host Nation Niger, west African neighbors Guinea and junior male
Chipolopolo in the CAF U-17 African Championship next year.
The draws were done early on Sunday 21st December, at the CAF headquarters in Cairo.
Nigeria (2), Ivory Coast (1) and Cameroon (1) are the only past winners in next year’s championship.
The Eaglets were finalists at the 2013 championship in Morocco where they lost to Ivory Coast on penalties.
Coach of the Eaglets, Emmanuel Amuneke, absent at the draws but was
delighted with the pairing and believes the group opponents will give
Nigeria a good contest as the team also prepares to defend the World
title it won last year in the United Arab Emirates.
Nigeria beat DR Congo 5-0 on aggregate and Gabon 6-2 in the second
and third rounds of the qualifiers and will hope to get as far as the
semi-final, the berth for an automatic ticket to the 2015 FIFA U-17
World Cup in Chile.
