In the latest fallout of Nigeria’s disastrous showing at the just concluded African Nations Championships (CHAN 2016), Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has beaten a retreat and sent in an apology to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The Super Eagles were eliminated in the group stages of the event, going down limply in the final group game against Guinea where they only needed a draw, and millions of disappointed fans called for the coach’s head.
The former Eagles skipper made matters worse by blaming the team’s Rwanda no-show on lack of funds and other logistical problems, drawing the ire of the Amaju Pinnick-led NFF board. And in a recent interview on Sports radio Brilla FM, he went further to label his critics as “insane”, claiming the public outcry was premature and out of place
In a swift u-turn however, The Nation is reporting that 42-year-old Delta-born gaffer has just sent a letter of apology to the NFF over his utterances and actions.
“He said he is sorry, that he never wanted to attack the NFF or embarrass the federation, but rather he wanted the whole world to know they have not been given money,” a close source to the Eagles said. “He also said he has been very frustrated after the heavy attack on him and his team after the CHAN exit.”
The Glass House has yet to issue any statement with regards to this new development.
