The United keeper had a terrific season and was nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award as well as being named in the PFA Team of the Year.
But Seaman, who played for the Gunners between 1990 and 2003 and won the Premier League title three times, believes that the Chelsea man is the superior keeper despite De Gea’s superb displays this season.
Choosing between the two Seaman explained to Squawka: “Courtois for me, I like the way he does his goalkeeping, he makes it look easy and he’s not flash about it.
“Having said that De Gea has had a fantastic season to come back from where he came from. With Man United when he first went there he had a nightmare time, he was making big mistakes and people were almost laughing at him, as if why would Man United sign this guy?
“But he’s shown great, great quality and great mental strength to come back from that and then push on,” Seaman explained.
“For me though I just love the style of Courtois, he takes crosses everywhere. Trust me in the modern game with a modern ball it’s not as easy as he makes it.”
It could be argued that Courtois receives much more protection from his back-four than De Gea does at United and that can be evidenced by the higher number of saves and saves per goal the Spain international has made this season compared Chelsea’s Belgian star.
Today Captain Morgan enlisted former Arsenal and Aston Villa captains David Seaman and Andy Townsend for a surprise cup final swap. Bar staff at iconic London pub the Globe were relieved from their duties to spend the day living like the Captain, while Seaman and Townsend took over behind the bar for one of the busiest shifts of the year.
Surprised Arsenal and Villa fans were greeted by the Captains, who took orders, gave their tips ahead of the game, and delivered an unforgettable pre-match build-up.
