Nigeria has been drawn in the group of death ahead of the 2015 U-20 African Youth Championship in Senegal.
In an interview, Coach of the team,
Manu Garba reacted to Nigeria’s chances of qualifying from Group A which
houses host Senegal, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Congo, the gaffer said
its an ‘interesting group’ because of the pedigree of the West African
Nations.
Though only Nigeria (6) and Congo (1) from the group have won honors
in the competition, Senegal will undoubtedly enjoy home advantage and
Ivory Coast will draw inspiration from the fact that most of the U-17
players that beat Manu Garba’s Eaglets in 2013 form the core of this
current team.
” It’s an interesting group in the sense that Senegal and Ivory Coast
are good footballing countries and Congo is also a good team and
Nigeria at this level is always the team to beat.”
“For me this is the group of death but we’re expected to come up
against any team because we believe, to be the best you must beat the
best and it’s not just a cliché.”
