President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the showing of Nigerian athletes at the recently concluded Special Olympics in Los Angeles, California.
The Nigerian contingent of 42 athletes took home a total of 71 medals at the Games organized for children and adults with mental impediments.
In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba shehu, President Buhari extols the team’s diligence, dedication and wonderful performance at the games that saw Nigeria sweep 34 gold medals.
The President praised the special athletes’ inspiring victories in Los Angeles which, according to him, epitomize the true Nigerian spirit and his personal conviction that whatever challenges we face as a nation, we can overcome them through dedication, hard work and perseverance, and rise to the highest possible levels of accomplishment.
The president assured the athletes that the Federal Government and all Nigerians are very proud of their exhilarating and dominant performance at the Special Olympics in which they won medals in all categories.
The President looks forward to receiving members of the team at the Presidential Villa to celebrate their triumph, the statement concluded.
