Flying Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi was on Sunday voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the pre-season invitational Glo Super 4 Tournament. The award carries a prize money of N200,000.

Awoniyi, who has a pre-contract with Swedish club Kalmar, scored two goals for the Flying Eagles and his all-round play was exceptional.

He is expected to sign a professional contract with the Swedish club in August, when he turns 18.
The Nigeria Under-20, who are preparing for the 2015 African Youth Championship in Senegal in March, won the six-team Glo Super Four-4 Tournament in style with 13 points from five matches. They won the competition with a round of games to spare, scored the highest number of goals (12) and were unbeaten throughout the tournament.

Home-based Eagles’ Christian Obiozor finished as top scorer of the tournament with four goals.
Samson Siasia’s Dream Team placed second with nine points.

Glo Premier League champions, Kano Pillars, who on last day of competition defeated Enyimba 1-0 finished third with eight while Enyimba with seven points followed up in the fourth place.

In the other game between, Warri Wolves had the upper hands in the battle of the two Confederation Cup hopefuls as a late Abu Azeez strike gave the Sea Siders a 2-1 win over Super-4 Tournament whipping boys, Dolphins of Port Harcourt.

Meanwhile, Kano Pillars Technical Adviser, Okey Emordi, has said his side are quite ready for the CAF Champions League campaign after participation at the Super 4 Tournament in Abuja.
Emordi said the side's tour of West African neighbours, Ghana is to help the Pyramid City side tighten any loose ends ahead of their scheduled CAF Champions League clash against the South Sudanese side Malakia FC.

"We're ready for Africa after the Super 4 Tournament performance against Premier League opponents and two under-age national teams.

"Our performance would've been excellent but for the fact that the players underrated the Under-20 and Under-23 teams as it took them time to regain their stride.
"Against the Premier League sides they tried their uttermost best.

"However, we're still building to attain the 100 per cent mark and that's why we're going on a tour of Ghana.

"We'll certainly have the opportunity to play top sides in warm-up matches to perfect our match strategies.

"Of course, our target is to excel in the continent and not to play second fiddle to any side.

"We're ready for Africa and will do everything humanly possible to match our words with action," said the former Enugu Rangers and Enyimba coach to supersport.com yesterday.

Pillars were due to travel to Ghana last night for a playing tour before they head back home for the journey to South Sudan to confront relatively unknown Malakia FC.
