Nigeria Federation Cup champions Enyimba have celebrated the first international goal of their key striker Mfon Udoh during a friendly match between Nigeria Super Eagles and the Yemeni national team.
Udoh who scored 18 goals last season in the Nigeria Premier Football League, played his first two matches for the Eagles against Ghana in Uyo and Cote d’Ivoire in Dubai without a goal.
The prolific forward netted the first goal in the first half of the match against Yemen in Dubai on Saturday while Azubuike Egwuekwe sealed the 2-0 victory for Eagles in the second period.
Enyimba which had produced some players who have been prominent in the national team, including goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, took to twitter to express their delight in striker’s achievement.
“Mfon Udoh has scored his first international goal after helping the Super Eagles of Nigeria beat Yemen 2-0 in today’s friendly,” the club wrote on their twitter handle.
The match against Yemen was fixed by the Nigeria Football Federation after Sudan who were initially billed to face the Eagles in their second friendly match in Dubai pulled out.
Prior the match, Udoh, whose is likely to sign for a bigger club abroad, had looked forward to scoring the international goal to improve his profile as a reliable goal scorer.
