The recently celebrated Bayelsa United Peter Ebimobowei reported move to Egyptian club, Al Ahly, has been denied and termed as “baseless rumour” by club.
Earlier reports quoted to a source saying, “Ahramonline, Al Ahly announced the signing of Ebimobowei. It is believed that Al Ahly agreed a transfer fee of $210 000 for the striker.”
However, Independent League Zone checks confirmed the Bayelsa united goals merchant has not had any talks or otherwise with any club adding the rumour should be discarded.
Speaking with the Media Officer of the Yenagoa side, George Ameli, on Tuesday on the purported contract he vexed, “I don’t know where this story is coming from that Ebimobowei has signed with an Egyptian club, Al Ahly.
“Why would people just sit down and concoct story without facts. Please as far as I’m concerned as the spokes man of the club, I don’t know anything about such story. It will be investigated and you will hear from me later,” he concluded angrily.
Again, an official of Bayelsa United, who pleaded anonymity, had claimed on Monday according to reports that talks are still on-going between the Nigerian club and Al Ahly.
To also justify the above position, an Al Ahly official, Wael Gomaa was said to had told a supersport.com’s North Africa correspondent Tarek Talaat on Sunday night that they had signed a Nigerian striker, but refused to disclose the player’s identity
The Egyptian giants were said to have made a choice of Ebimobowei in a bid to beef up their attacking options in the race for the Egyptian Premier League title this season.
Ebimobowei in December was said to have agreed to join Nigeria Federation Cup finalists, Dolphins, on loan ahead of next season.
The present situation however, leaves Dolphins with the decision of shopping for a new striker with just few hours remaining to deadline for registration ahead of the 2015 CAF Confederation Cup.
