Egyptian champions Al Ahly have boosted their squad ahead of their Cairo derby against Zamalek with the signing of Peter Ebimobowei from Bayelsa United on Sunday.
The 22-year-old right-footed forward, who was third in the Glo Premier League top scorers’ chart with 18 goals last season, was acquired for $210,000 from the Nigerian club.
Ahly said signing the Nigerian forward was one of their many attempts at improving the club this transfer season as they hope to retain their domestic title and also challenge for honours on the continent.
A fortnight ago, Ahly signed attacking midfielder Moemen Zakarya from ENPPI.
Ahly are set to face their arch-rivals Zamalek in Cairo derby on January 29 as they are bidding for their 38th Egyptian Premier League title, ninth in a row.
The Red Devils are currently fourth in the Egyptian Premier League table with 28 points, 12 points behind leaders Zamalek but they have three games in hand.
Ahly are eight time Champions League winners, and won last year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
